Dream of being a published author? This year’s SCBWI Central-Coastal California Writers’ Day (Theme – Discovering your path to publication) promises to encourage, inspire, educate and illuminate aspiring and published children’s authors and illustrators alike of picture books, middle grade, and young adult stories. Industry insiders will share their vast knowledge of the children’s publishing world along with what editors and agents are looking for: flawed characters, strong stories with tension and conflict, and stories with heart. Attendees can enter up to two manuscripts into the free writing contest. Deadline September 5. Manuscript critiques, and illustrator dummy critiques are available in advance for $45 along with a live First Pages Editors’ Panel. New this year, a free 90 minute follow up webinar with agent Lorin Oberweger extend her Writers’ Day “Tension and Desire” talk exclusively for Writers’ Day. Lunch included!
