UC Master Gardeners' Fall Fruit Festival
The first annual Fall Fruit Festival, sponsored by the University of California San Luis Obispo County Master Gardeners, will feature educational exhibits, food tastings, and presentations by experts. It is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Garden of the Seven Sisters, 2156 Sierra Way, San Luis Obispo. This free event is open to the public. Learn about common insect and animal pests, the basics of beekeeping, how to preserve fall fruits and pot succulents, create wildlife gardens, along with tips on irrigation, tool maintenance, and plant health. Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions. Exhibitors include Gopher Glen, California Rare Fruit Growers, and SLO County Master Food Preservers. Fruit, trees, bird and bat houses, desserts and other items will be for sale. The program's mission is to share research-based knowledge and information on home horticulture, pest management, and sustainable landscape practices to the residents of California. Master Gardeners offer volunteer services and outreach to the general public. Last year 6,116 active Master Gardener volunteers donated 398,265 hours, and over 5.4 million hours have been donated since the program's inception.
