Conversations: Korean Oral Histories and Folk Music

Saturday, December 12, 2020, 8:00 AM - 7:30 AM

Conversations: Korean Oral Histories and Folk Music is a cultural journey from the viewpoint of several women who grew up in Korea. They will discuss their histories, traditions and culture. There will be a musical presentation by faculty performing two Korean folk songs, and a third song created by the faculty member’s grandfather.

An oral history is read by Sunyoung Park, Ph.D., an assistant professor of Psychology at Cal Lutheran in the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology program, and undergraduate student Courtney Buchanan and her grandmother, Katie Lee. The Folk music is performed by Keum Hwa Cha, DMA, and accompanied on the piano by Soon Kim, both in the music dept. at Cal Lutheran. Don Warrick is the narrator.

This program premieres on Sunday, Sept. 13, National Grandparents Day, a day to honor our ancestors. This prerecorded film as well as the companion film, Understanding 20th Century Korean History, (which premiered on Saturday, Aug. 29) are available for viewing at this link anytime during 2020 after the premiere date.
