Talk & Booksigning by Author B. Byron Price, Edward Borein: Etched by the West

Thursday, October 21, 2021, 12:30 AM - 1:30 AM

The life and art of Edward Borein is the subject of the Museum’s new book by author B. Byron Price, one of the foremost writers on the art of the American West. Price will speak about "Edward Borein: Etched by the West" and sign books at an in-person event at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum on Wednesday, October 20 at 5:30 p.m.
Published by the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, the 336-page work is the first scholarly treatment of the artist and includes more than 400 images, many never before published. The book describes Borein’s path from itinerant vaquero to successful illustrator to revered recorder and interpreter of the vanishing West.
Prior to his recent retirement, Price was Director of the Charles M. Russell Center for the Study of Art of the American West at the University of Oklahoma, Norman. He is the former director of the Panhandle–Plains Historical Museum, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
This event is one of several held in conjunction with the exhibition "Borein and His Circle of Friends" at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum, which is on view through January 22, 2022. Cowboy artist and Santa Barbara resident Edward Borein counted many talented artists as friends and colleagues. Works by over 25 of this “circle of friends” are represented in this major exhibition, including internationally acclaimed Western artists. Also on view for the first time are more than 20 recently conserved and reframed watercolors by Borein which depict typical Western scenes. For more information, visit www.sbhistorical.org/boreinfriends.
The Museum is located in historic downtown Santa Barbara at 136 East de la Guerra Street. Museum admission is free. Hours are currently Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. and Thursdays from noon to 7 p.m. Visit www.sbhistorical.org.
