Carp History Museum continues 2025 speaker series with Rincon Point

March 20 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Rincon Point takes center stage at the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History’s next talk in the Talk & Talkback speaker series. Vince Burns and Stephen Bates will explore the transformation of Rincon Point from a scruffy, unpopulated beach into the legendary surf spot of today. They’ll discuss the Chumash village of Shuku, the Mexican land grant Rancho El Rincon, the evolution of surfing, and some of the families who have shaped Rincon.

The 2025 Talk & Talkback Speaker Series is hosted by the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History. Rincon Point and the California Dream will be held on March 20 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the museum, 956 Maple Ave. in downtown Carpinteria. The talk is free for members of the museum and $10 for visitors.

“We’re looking forward to digging into the historical aspects of Rincon Point as a place, a home, and a legend,” said Jayme Yahr, the museum’s director. “This talk, by thoughtful storytellers Bates and Burns, will include lots of images, highlight surf culture, and have ample time to talkback!”
