Carp History Museum to host Family History Day
November 9 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
FreeThe Carpinteria Valley Museum of History will host a free Family Day 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Nov. 9 from at the museum, 956 Maple Ave. Open to all families and individuals, Family Day will be filled with hands-on learning and fun!
Fifteen interactive stations will include: a scavenger hunt, rope making, using an apple press, playing with vintage toys and games, taking historic photos, putting together puzzles and timelines, using stereoviewers and viewfinders, trying out a water pump and washboards, writing on school slates, making family trees and cultural crafts, testing out writing styles from different eras, and sifting in the sand for small “artifacts.” All stations, prizes, and takeaways are free for attendees.
The Museum is partnering with the Carpinteria State Beach, UC Santa Barbara Library, and the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society on Family Day. All three organizations will be hosting stations at the event.
Jayme Yahr, the Museum’s Executive Director, is excited to welcome returning and new visitors to the museum explaining, “Family Day is going to be a fun community event. The Museum will have activities for children and adults, lots of touch stations, and new ways of thinking about and hand-testing history. I appreciate our partner organizations and volunteers for helping to make this new event a reality.”
Family Day was made possible with support from California Humanities, a nonprofit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Visit www.calhum.org.
