Judy Wexler Band

Los Angeles-based vocalist Judy Wexler is thrilled to make her debut at The Grape. Judy has headlined at jazz festivals, performing arts centers and top regional jazz clubs both nationally and internationally. All About Jazz says, “Judy Wexler is more than a mere singer of songs, she is an actress, mood painter, song archaeologist and vocalist par excellence.” A top Billboard charting artist, Judy has made six albums since 2005. Her latest, Back to the Garden (2021, Jewel City Jazz), is a collection of songs from the Summer of Love, arranged by her longtime pianist Jeff Colella. Her fifth CD, Crowded Heart 2019, Jewel City Jazz), is a collaboration with pianist Alan Pasqua that presented “jazz standards for the 21st century,” an anthology of ten modern jazz compositions by contemporary songwriters. Ted Gioia, New York Times best-selling author of The Jazz Standards and The History of Jazz said, “What a joy to listen to this album, both for the exquisite music-making of Judy Wexler and Alan Pasqua, but also for their astuteness in finding and featuring outstanding songs by current-day jazz composers. Highly recommended!” Prior albums include What I See (2013), Under a Painted Sky (2011), Dreams & Shadows (2008), and her debut, Easy on the Heart (2005). All of Judy’s albums have topped the national JazzWeek radio charts and received enthusiastic reviews, including 4-Star DownBeat reviews and feature articles. She has been featured twice on NPR Weekend Edition with Susan Stamberg, who said, “Based on the evidence, Judy Wexler can sing almost anything.” Performance highlights include the Montreal Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Jazz Festival, Dubai Jazz Festival, San Jose Jazz Festival, Temecula Jazz Festival (where she opened for the legendary Mose Allison), Birdland and The Blue Note (New York City), Scullers (Boston), Jazz Alley (Seattle), Yoshi’s (San Francisco), Blues Alley (Washington, D.C.), Nardis Jazz Club (Istanbul), and Upstairs Jazz Club (Montreal). In Los Angeles, she can be heard at Catalina Jazz Club, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato Jazz Club, The Baked Potato, and at LACMA’s Friday Night Jazz Series, where she has performed for eight seasons.
