Mind-Bending Research, Made Simple

Join us for UC Santa Barbara’s most exciting event of the year. Grad Slam is the annual campus-wide competition where graduate students have the challenge of distilling years of research into an engaging 3 minute talk. Finalists have the opportunity to win up to $5,000 at the Finals event. This year’s event will be live streamed via UCSB’s official Facebook page in addition to being held in person in Campbell Hall.

Register here for free and be automatically entered to win a beautiful UCSB poster print.

HEALTH & SAFETY FOR IN-PERSON EVENT

The Protocol for attending the Grad Slam in-person event is developed in conjunction with evolving state, local and university health guidelines. Graduate Division staff, student speakers and volunteers are also required to fully follow protocols.

Proof of Full Vaccination Is Required for Entry.

Proof of full vaccination (including a booster shot if eligible) will be required for entry into the in-person event in Campbell Hall. “Full vaccination” means a final COVID-19 vaccine dose was administered at least 14 days prior. Unvaccinated patrons, regardless of age, will not be permitted inside the venue.

Masks are Required Indoors and in Check-In Lines at All Times.

All patrons must bring and wear their own face covering that fully covers both nose and mouth with ear loops (or similar) to hold it securely in place. N95, KN95, KF94 or FFP2 face masks are strongly recommended. Bandanas, gaiters and masks with external valves are not permitted. Face shields alone are not adequate protection. Mask-wearing is also strongly encouraged in outdoor spaces.

Acceptable Forms of Vaccination Documentation Include:

CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card (physical card or digital photo) plus a state-issued photo ID* that matches the vaccine record.

State of California Department of Public Health Digital COVID-19 Vaccine Record plus a state-issued photo ID* that matches the vaccine record. (Digital vaccine record must include recipient name and vaccination dose dates).

UC Santa Barbara students, staff and faculty can present their daily green UCSB COVID-19 Clearance Survey Badge (Clearance email not accepted; badge must be displayed via the UCSB Student Health portal). They also use their campus ID card as proof of identification; otherwise they must present a state-issued photo ID*.

* Photo ID is not required for minors who are accompanied by an adult.

Unvaccinated audience members with medical or religious exemptions must show documentation of the exemption, along with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 48 hours of arrival. The test must be from a state-approved lab/testing provider. Rapid over-the-counter or at-home tests will not be accepted.

If you are unvaccinated and do not have a documented exemption, please contact the Graduate Division in advance to discuss your options.
