SUMMARY:Volunteer as a Crisis Intervention Advocate
DESCRIPTION:Standing Together to End Sexual Assault (STESA) is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to support survivors of sexual assault in our community by training to become volunteer Crisis Intervention Advocates. \nSTESA’s next Crisis Intervention Training will take place September 5\, 2023 through October 28\, 2023. The training will be hybrid: \n\nTuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00-8:30 PM via Zoom and in-person on September 9 & 23 and October 14 & 28.\n\nIf you are interested and would like to apply for the volunteer training\, please contact angie@sbstesa.org to request an application. \nThank you for supporting survivors! \nRequirements to become an Advocate \n\n\nBecause of the nature and intensity of the training program\, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications: \n\n\n\n\n\nApplicants must have an interest in assisting sexual assault survivors and their significant others.\nApplicants must be willing to uphold STESA’s mission statement\, position papers\, and philosophy.\nApplicants must have good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with people from various cultures and backgrounds. (Examples: race\, ethnicity\, sexual orientation\, gender\, age\, disability\, socioeconomic status\, etc.)\nSpanish speaking skills are desirable.\nApplicants must be able to attend all training sessions.\nApplicants must commit to at least one\, 6-hour shift per week for one year volunteering for STESA.\nApplicants must be willing to participate in additional events to support the goals of STESA.\nCompletion of the California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) approved Crisis Intervention Training is necessary to work with clients.\nReliable transportation is desirable (including a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance).\nApplicants must be at least 16 years old when the Crisis Intervention Training begins.\nApplicants cannot have a history of perpetrating sexual assault and/or harassment or any unresolved allegations pertaining to a sexual assault.\nSurvivors of sexual assault must be emotionally ready to assist other survivors and be no less than one year past their own assault/abuse experience.\nApplicants with a history of substance abuse disorder must have been clean and sober for at least one year prior to training.\nApplicants must consent for and understand that STESA may conduct a criminal background check.\n\n\n
