The day includes behind-the-scenes tours\, tractor with trailer rides\, tastings\, giveaways and kid-friendly activities. With the help of the online Farm Day Trail Map\, the public can pick which farms to visit and then map out the day’s driving itinerary. Farms are located in Santa Maria\, Santa Ynez Valley\, Los Alamos and beyond. \nFarm Day is free to attend. Tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can tour farms that produce specialty crops\, seasonal produce and berries\, wine grapes and livestock. SUMMARY:C.A.R.L.’s Pooch Parade Returns to Ventura Harbor
DESCRIPTION:Animal welfare non-profit Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.) will welcome canine superheroes and their owners to the 2023 Pooch Parade Dog Walk and Pet Expo on Sunday\, September 24\, at Ventura Harbor Village\, 1583 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura on the grassy area. The expo starts at 10 a.m. and runs until 3 p.m. with the Parade starting at 11:45 a.m.  \nWith this year’s theme of “Superheroes\,” participants will have opportunities to dress themselves and their dogs up as their favorite fictional comic book character. Canine contestants will be eligible for ribbons\, prizes and a grand award going to the “Top Dog” of the Pooch Parade. The event will feature an emcee\, Ken Vela\, who served as emcee at the 2018 and 2019 Pooch Parades\, vendors\, a silent auction and a Frisbee demonstration with dogs. Major sponsors include Ohana Pet Hospital with offices in Ventura and Santa Paula and Boone Graphics in Goleta.  \n“We look forward again to welcoming canine aficionados from near and far\,” said C.A.R.L. President Grace Cunningham. “Although Hurricane Hilary prevented us from hosting the Pooch Parade last month\, we knew we had to reschedule it to support our adoptable dogs housed at our pet care center in Santa Paula.” \nCost to participate in the Pooch Parade costume contest is $50 for an individual walker with dog(s) and $180 for a four-person team and $40 per person over four team members with dog(s). Booth participation costs are $50 for a non-profit vendor booth and $100 for a regular vendor booth. C.A.R.L. hosted its last Pooch Parade in 2019; activities were halted over the past four years due to the pandemic.

DESCRIPTION:The Wildling Museum of Art and Nature is pleased to present its third juried exhibition showcasing California’s nine national parks this fall. California National Parks: Stories of Water will feature 37 artists and 39 selected artworks juried from a pool of more than 240 submissions by artists across the U.S.\, competing for $4\,000 in awards. The exhibition is on view September 23\, 2023 – February 19\, 2024. The public is invited to attend an opening reception and awards ceremony at the Wildling on Sunday\, September 24\, 2023 from 3 – 5 p.m. \nThe exhibition explores various impacts of water – or its lack – in California’s national parks through a wide range of media and techniques\, from acrylic\, oil\, and watercolor paintings\, to photography\, mixed media\, and textile art. However\, borders operate differently in different\ncontexts. Feminists\, Reed-Sandoval believes\, need to recognize that borders can both harm and\nprotect\, and thus question whether some kind of borders could ever\, in fact\, be feminist.

Lichtenstein will speak about his new book A Fabulous Failure: The Clinton Presidency and the Transformation of American Capitalism\, published September 12\, 2023\, by Princeton University Press. \nChaucer’s Books will sell copies of the book before and after Lichtenstein’s talk. \nWhen Bill Clinton was elected president in 1992\, he ended 12 years of Republican rule and seemed poised to enact a progressive transformation of the American economy\, touching everything from health care to trade to labor relations. Yet by the time he left office\, the nation’s economic and social policies had instead lurched dramatically rightward\, exacerbating the inequalities so troubling in our own time. In his talk\, Lichtenstein reveals why Clinton’s expansive agenda was a fabulous failure\, and why its demise still haunts us today. \nNelson Lichtenstein is Research Professor at the University of California\, Santa Barbara. An historian of labor\, business and politics\, he is the author or editor of 19 books\, including State of the Union: A Century of American Labor; The Retail Revolution: How Wal-Mart Created a Brave New World of Business; a biography of the labor leader Walter Reuther\, and most recently\, A Fabulous Failure: The Clinton Presidency and the Transformation of American Capitalism. He co-edited Beyond the New Deal Order: From the Great Depression to the Great Recession and a companion volume\, Capitalism Contested: the New Deal and Its Legacies. Lompoc Chalks is a free community event that features arts and craft booths\, local vendors\, a fun Kid’s Corner with face painting and activities\, fabulous food trucks\, live stage entertainment\, and of course\, talented artists from near and far. \nFriday night kicks off the weekend with a special Artist Meet & Greet from 5pm-8pm featuring the Food Truck Friday fleet and a live performance by the T Bone Ramblers playing from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Each hike has a different natural history focus\, such as plants\, pollinators\, or birds. DESCRIPTION:Lompoc Airport will turn into an explosion of chalk art masterpieces\, live music\, public art\, and community engagement October 20-22! Lompoc Chalks is a free community event that features arts and craft booths\, local vendors\, a fun Kid’s Corner with face painting and activities\, fabulous food trucks\, live stage entertainment\, and of course\, talented artists from near and far. \nFriday night kicks off the weekend with a special Artist Meet & Greet from 5pm-8pm featuring the Food Truck Friday fleet and a live performance by the T Bone Ramblers playing from 5:30 – 7:30pm. Saturday and Sunday’s festivities are open to the public from 10am-5pm. \nThe main attraction of this three day celebration is the sidewalk/street chalk paintings that are created over the course of the weekend. Chalk artists begin their masterpieces early on Saturday morning\, and the public is encouraged to watch their progress throughout the weekend. \nWhile admission to the event is free\, every dollar raised through sponsorships and direct donations benefits the Lompoc Theatre Project\, and will be matched dollar for dollar by the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians thanks to their generous matching grant of $150\,000. Business sponsorship packages range from $500-$5\,000; and individual Square Sponsorships are available starting at $150.
