SUMMARY:11th Annual Ventura County Farm Day
DESCRIPTION:The fifth annual Santa Barbara County Farm Day is set for Saturday\, September 23. It’s a once-a-year opportunity to experience how the food we eat is grown. The day includes behind-the-scenes tours\, tractor with trailer rides\, tastings\, giveaways and kid-friendly activities. With the help of the online Farm Day Trail Map\, the public can pick which farms to visit and then map out the day’s driving itinerary. Farms are located in Santa Maria\, Santa Ynez Valley\, Los Alamos and beyond. \nFarm Day is free to attend. Tour hours are from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendees can tour farms that produce specialty crops\, seasonal produce and berries\, wine grapes and livestock. New Farm Day agricultural participants are being added. DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, November 16 · 5:30 – 7pm  \nJoin historian Neal Graffy to learn the full story behind John Peck Stearns and his deepwater wharf. \nIt was Monday\, September 16\, 1872\, was when the first ship tied up at John Peck Stearns’ new wharf at the foot of State Street. Prior to this date\, ships had to pause a mile or more off shore while cargo and passengers were transferred to small boats and rowed ashore and back. It was a time-consuming\, expensive and miserable experience. But no more! Stearns had built more than a wharf\, this was the door that would open Santa Barbara to the world. For 150 years Stearns Wharf has endured storms\, fires\, earthquakes\, changing times and the threat of bombing by the most dastardly of villains.
