DESCRIPTION:Tending the Earth: Exploring Ethnobotany and Land Etiquette \nThursday\, February 15th\, 6:30pm\nFaulkner Gallery – Santa Barbara Public Library\n40 East Anapamu St.\, Santa Barbara\, CA \nSolange Aguilar will be sharing some practical uses of native plants\, gathering tips\, and why it’s important to know where you are\, who the people of the land are\, and different ways on how to be a better relative to both the land and the people who have taken care of the land since time immemorial. \nSolange Aguilar (They/Ze) is a Mescalero Apache\, Yo’eme\, & Filipinx (Kalinga & Kapampangan) artist\, poet\, and zinemaker currently living in Qenepstin\, Chumash Territory (Santa Barbara\, CA). In 2020\, they won first place in the Santa Barbara Poetry Slam. In 2021\, they received an artist scholarship from The Pachamama Skillshare and Women’s Creative Collective for Change. They also began a fellowship from the Artist2Artist program by the Art Matters Foundation. In 2022\, their zines “Alternatives to White Sage\, Palo Santo\, Cedar\, Sweetgrass\, and Copal” and “Skoden: The Ultimate Indigenous Road Trip Guide” were both selected to be included in Harvard Library’s zine collection. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, February 25 from 11am to 2pm\, NatureTrack will be at Pismo State Beach to introduce those who use wheelchairs to the Freedom Trax devices at no cost. These devices enable users to get up close to the waters’ edge and navigate the beach under their own control.  Being in nature is part of a balanced life.  The most often heard response from wheelchair users\, family and friends after experiencing these units … This is a game changer!  \nNatureTrack will have several Freedom Trax devices available for wheelchair users to use on a first-come\, first-served basis. This device quickly changes a manual wheelchair into a battery powered\, all-terrain vehicle which can easily traverse sand and trails. People with equilibrium issues are also welcome to come try out the Freedom Trax – all courtesy of NatureTrack.   \nWe do ask for RSVPs to be able to accommodate people in wheelchairs more efficiently.  What a great opportunity to try these devices and get onto the beach again.  \nThe RSVP form will give us the chance to have a device ready for your chair. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 14th from 11 am – 2pm\, NatureTrack will be at Gaviota State Beach to introduce those who use wheelchairs to the Freedom Trax devices at no cost!  Get up close to the waters’ edge\, navigate the beach under your own control. This is a real game changer.   \nNatureTrack will have several Freedom Trax devices available for wheelchair users to use on a first-come\, first-served basis. We ask you for RSVPs to be able to accommodate all interested people. This apparatus can quickly and easily convert a manual wheelchair into a battery-powered\, all-terrain vehicle allowing those users to traverse beach sand and trails independently.  \nThere is no cost to use the Freedom Trax\, courtesy of NatureTrack\, which will also have two manual wheelchairs available for transfer should your wheelchair not fit on the device. DESCRIPTION:Come enjoy what K-12 students have been enjoying since 2011 — discover the beaches and trails in Santa Barbara County led by knowledgeable and fun docents. They will give everyone opportunities to explore nature in the ‘outdoor classroom’ where learning comes alive along with fun.  Finding the balance in one’s life includes nature as a vital element.  \n  \nNatureTrack’s Family Days field trips (https://naturetrack.org/news-events/)  are for parents\, grandparents and children to enjoy nature games and activities together.  Learn more about the El Capitan State Beach (5/4) and the North Campus Open Space (7/14) on the remaining two inaugural outings scheduled.  \n  \nThe benefits of nature are well-documented as being in nature really does make a difference.
