DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, May 1\, 2024\, the San Luis Obispo Superior Court will host a variety of Law Day activities from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at the San Luis Obispo Superior Courthouse. Please enter the building through the entrance located at 1050 Monterey Street. \nLaw Day activities will include a judicial address by the Presiding Judge\, Honorable Rita Federman. The Grand Jury will present information about the important role they play in San Luis Obispo County. Legal service providers and volunteer lawyers will be available to provide legal resource materials and free legal information to the public. There will also be a mock trial demonstration by Morro Bay High School. \nPlease see the flyer/schedule of events for distribution. All are welcome to this free community event. \nAbout Law Day \nLaw Day is observed to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper understanding of the legal profession. President Dwight Eisenhower established the first Law Day in 1958 to mark the nation’s commitment to the rule of law. In 1961\, Congress issued a joint resolution designating May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day. Every president since then has issued a Law Day proclamation on May 1 to celebrate the nation’s commitment to the rule of law.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for this info session and learn about volunteering a the Nature Center! \nVolunteer 20hrs/week and live at Cachuma Lake in Santa Barbara \nThe Neal Taylor Nature Center located at Cachuma Lake in the hills above Santa Barbara\, CA is looking for a single volunteer or a volunteer couple. We need someone\, preferably starting in May 2024 and staying through November 2024. This is a lovely time of year to be in this area. The volunteer(s) will be working with a fun group of other volunteers in the Nature Center and duties will include assisting with greeting visitors and children’s groups to the Nature Center\, attending to a small gift shop\, light duty helping to keep the Nature Center dusted and vacuumed\, and computer work. Computer skills are a big plus. \nIn exchange for volunteering an average of 20 hours a week\, a full hookup RV site (electric\, water\, sewer) is provided in a nice RV park just steps away from the Nature Center. Hours are somewhat flexible but revolve around the Center’s 10AM-4PM Wednesday-Saturday\, 10 AM- 2PM Sunday schedule. \nThe Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is a short 20 minute drive to Santa Barbara\, 10 minutes to Santa Ynez and the start of the valley wine country. DESCRIPTION:UCSB Library is pleased to present Rae Wynn-Grant\, an affiliated researcher with the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management\, as the spring speaker in the Pacific Views: Library Speaker Series. \nWynn-Grant is a wildlife ecologist with an expertise in uncovering how human activity influences carnivore behavior and ecology. She received her BS in environmental studies from Emory University\, her MS in environmental studies from Yale University\, and her PhD in ecology and evolution from Columbia University. She is a Research Fellow with the National Geographic Society\, with whom she has appeared on a variety of televised nature programs and for whom she’s currently on a 20-city speaking tour as part of Nat Geo Live. She serves on The North Face’s Explore Fund Council\, co-hosts Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom Protecting the Wild on NBC\, hosts the podcast “Going Wild with Dr. Rae Wynn-Grant\,” produced by PBS\, and has been featured in Vogue\, Forbes\, the New York Times\, and the Los Angeles Times\, among many others. \nHer new memoir Wild Life: Finding my Purpose in an Untamed World will be published in April 2024. DESCRIPTION:Join us for this info session and learn about volunteering a the Nature Center! \nVolunteer 20hrs/week and live at Cachuma Lake in Santa Barbara \nThe Neal Taylor Nature Center located at Cachuma Lake in the hills above Santa Barbara\, CA is looking for a single volunteer or a volunteer couple. We need someone\, preferably starting in May 2024 and staying through November 2024. This is a lovely time of year to be in this area. The volunteer(s) will be working with a fun group of other volunteers in the Nature Center and duties will include assisting with greeting visitors and children’s groups to the Nature Center\, attending to a small gift shop\, light duty helping to keep the Nature Center dusted and vacuumed\, and computer work. Computer skills are a big plus. \nIn exchange for volunteering an average of 20 hours a week\, a full hookup RV site (electric\, water\, sewer) is provided in a nice RV park just steps away from the Nature Center. Hours are somewhat flexible but revolve around the Center’s 10AM-4PM Wednesday-Saturday\, 10 AM- 2PM Sunday schedule. \nThe Cachuma Lake Recreation Area is a short 20 minute drive to Santa Barbara\, 10 minutes to Santa Ynez and the start of the valley wine country. Healthy native plant populations are generally more self-sustaining and drought-resistant than non-native plants (and can therefore help in conserving water)\, and support the native pollinators and animals that rely on them for survival. \nFrom 11AM-1PM\, enjoy a free guided planter-painting activity. Bring your own planter or recycled container (pickle\, peanut butter\, or mason jars work great for this!)\, or take one of ours (while supplies last)\, and decorate a home for native plant seeds or seedlings! \nYes Yes Nursery will also be offering a free sunflower seed packing activity for children at their booth in the back parking lot\, with sunflower seeds\, soil\, and container included. \nIn addition to their usual incredible coffee\, Considered Coffee Co. will be selling compost from their closed-loop system and partnership with Isla Vista Coffee Collective (IVCC). DESCRIPTION:Students for Eco-Education and Agriculture (SEEAG) will host its 2nd annual Plantopia “U-Pick Your Garden” fundraiser to celebrate Earth Day. The event\, held on Saturday\, April 27\, will raise funds to support SEEAG’s agricultural education programs where students learn about the farm origins of their food\, water resources\, soil health\, entomology and locally grown fruits and vegetables. \nPlantopia is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be held at two locations in Ventura County: Growing Works Nursery (1736 S. Lewis Rd.\, Camarillo) and SEEAG’s headquarters in Ventura Harbor (1575 Spinnaker Dr.\, Ventura).  For a $35 donation\, participants can select a combination of 12 small plants to fill two six-pack containers. Participants who order in advance can also select seedlings that produce vegetables that makeup three types of food specialty gardens: salsa garden\, soup garden and salad garden.  The organic seedlings are from Plantel Nurseries.
