SUMMARY:Dunes: Visions of Sand\, Light & Shadow
DESCRIPTION:Traverse the sand dunes with Central Coast photographer Bob Canepa in the Wildling Museum’s new Valley Oak Gallery exhibition\, Dunes: Visions of Light\, Sand & Shadow\, opening September 10\, 2022. The public is invited to attend a fall reception on Sunday\, October 9 from 3 – 5 p.m \nThe unique terrain of the Oceano Dunes has served as a wealth of inspiration for Canepa\, who has visited these dunes weekly for years. From sweeping vistas of light and shadow to grains of sand caught in dewy moisture\, Canepa has surveyed these weather-sculpted dunes from a range of perspectives\, always finding something new in the shifting landscape. \nCentral Coast sand dunes and wetlands also serve as valuable habitat for many different species of native plants and animals\, including the threatened western snowy plover. \nThrough his vision\, Canepa aims to inspire others to help preserve these majestic and environmentally significant sand dunes for future generations.

SUMMARY:Wildlife on the Edge: Hilary Baker
DESCRIPTION:The Wildling Museum of Art and Nature is pleased to announce its upcoming 2022 fall exhibition\, Wildlife on the Edge: Hilary Baker\, on view from October 8\, 2022 – March 6\, 2023. The public is invited to attend an opening reception on Sunday\, October 9 from 3 – 5 p.m. at the Wildling Museum. \nWildlife on the Edge features new and recent acrylic paintings from Hilary Baker’s Predators series alongside a new series of animal portraits on birch wood. From a group of common pigeons to an elusive cougar\, Baker’s subjects make themselves at home in urban locales inspired by Los Angeles landmarks past and present. \nCoupled with Baker’s alternatingly bright and moody color palette\, viewers are provided a fanciful peek into the secret lives of their wild neighbors\, often hidden in plain view. \n“I consider my Predators portraits and present them straightforwardly\,” says Baker. “Their gaze is oblique\, their confrontation with the viewer unflinching and their presence – like the past – uncompromising. It might be argued that these mostly nocturnal creatures serve as stand-ins for any city resident attempting to co-exist with a disappearing homeland.” \nThe exhibition will also include video and photography highlighting native wildlife in the urban landscape\, providing local context for creatures who make the Central Coast home\, and exploring California wildlife crossings such as the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing currently underway at Liberty Canyon. A resource table will also offer visitors a chance for reflection with recent news on efforts to improve wildlife habitats and how the public can better coexist with animals in an increasingly modern landscape. \nQuestions? SUMMARY:BRELAND - HERE FOR IT TOUR
DESCRIPTION:New Jersey-born BRELAND began writing songs as a teenager\, inspired by a diverse collection of sounds and eclectic artists like the Beatles\, Rascal Flatts\, Prince\, and his number-one influence\, Stevie Wonder. While attending Georgetown University\, BRELAND knocked on every possible music-industry door and eventually broke through as a songwriter\, landing a number of high-profile cuts with rappers like Elhae and YK Osiris. But as he continued to work on his own music\, BRELAND soon posted “My Truck” on social media as a challenge to determine whether he could elicit 500 comments – and after smashing that goal\, self-released the track to multi-platform success. Along with paving the way for BRELAND’s signing to Bad Realm/Atlantic Records\, “My Truck” sparked headline-worthy streaming success\, including hitting #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral 50 and US Viral 50 charts. Praised by Rolling Stone as “1\,000 percent the whole package\,” BRELAND has been featured in leading press outlets like Genius\, Paper\, USA TODAY and Billboard’s “Emerging Artists Spotlight\,” and in April released a remix of “My Truck” featuring Country superstar Sam Hunt. BRELAND’s self-titled EP debut arrived May 22\, featuring both versions of “My Truck” and five other standout co-writes.

SUMMARY:!!! (Chk Chk Chk) W/ Tolliver: Presented by SLO Brew Live + (((folkYEAH!)))
DESCRIPTION:Combining punk abandon and tightly-coiled dance music has always been bonded into the band’s DNA. It’s this core plus their growth and mastery of songwriting that has seen them outlive the mid-2000s ‘indie/dance punk’ tag and has allowed them to consistently grow lyrically and sonically from album to album. As If is their most transcendent collection of songs yet. “Each album we’ve made has gotten closer and closer to our live set and this\, we’re proud to say\, is the closest we’ve come yet. We were heavily influenced by current dance music — Nina Kraviz\, Moodymann\, Paranoid London\, Rrose and Delroy Edwards were frequently referenced — and philosophically by the early ’90s house records we love on labels like Trax and Dancemania and by artists like Romanthony and Green Velvet. Those records sound great because they’re fairly raw attempts to use the technology of the time to ape the New York and Philly disco records that those producers loved. We figured\, if those old house records sound like they do because the artists manipulated disco samples with MPCs\, why couldn’t we just sample ourselves and manipulate the tracks with Ableton Live? The more raw it came out the better it felt\, not only because that’s what excited us about those old records\, but because it felt more punk\, which always feels good.”

SUMMARY:Jeff Lorber Fusion
DESCRIPTION:Grammy-winning pianist\, Jeff Lorber\, with Jimmy Haslip- bass\, Gary Novak- drums\, Lenny Castro- percussion\n\n\nSpace-Time is a supersonic odyssey with longtime Jeff Lorber Fusion trio-mates drummer Gary Novak (who has worked with everyone from George Benson to Chick Corea) and bassist/Yellowjackets founding member Jimmy Haslip. “I first met Jimmy and we worked together in the early 80s but we really started working closely in 2010 after a tour we did together in Russia\,” recalls Lorber. “He’s a good partner to have and he keeps the big picture in mind\, when I sometimes tend to be more detail oriented about things. Gary became part of the core rhythm section around 2010. He’s a good friend and good hang. We have a lot of fun together besides making music.” The album also enlists some help from flutist Hubert Laws\, guitarists Paul Jackson\, Jr.\, Michael Landau and Robben Ford\, saxophonists Bob Mintzer\, Dave Mann\, Gary Meek and Gerald Albright (who actually plays electric bass on a track). Space-Time showcases new and original material including a track that was penned for Jeff’s friend and towering piano giant Chick Corea\, shortly after his passing.\n \n \nJeff Lorber Fusion maps out all of the celestial coordinates on Space-Time\, offering a wondrous galaxy of sonic delight. Lorber and company manage to create a sound and feel throughout the album that captures the essence and vibe of a live show. “All the musicians are experienced studio musicians and that’s something that studio players always aim for. The idea is to make it sound natural\, grooving and relaxed and to capture the sound of playing for a live audience even though the audience isn’t physically there.” While most of the band completed the album from their own remote studio locations\, Lorber and Gary Novak did have the opportunity to record together in the same studio. “Over the last number of years most of us have gotten used to tracking at home\,” explains Jeff. “So from that standpoint it wasn’t that different from a normal record. One thing that was different\, however was the absence of live touring\, I was able to really focus on the record and this album benefitted positively from that.”
