SUMMARY:Book Signing and Cookie Decorating with Elizabeth Poett
DESCRIPTION:From Elizabeth Poett\, the star of Magnolia Network’s popular show comes “Ranch to Table”—a stunningly beautiful cookbook celebrating a year on a ranch on the California coast\, featuring simple yet festive recipes\, inspiring menus\, and fascinating culture and history.\n\nElizabeth Poett was raised on Rancho San Julian\, a 14\,000-acre ranch on Santa Barbara’s Central Coast that her family has been working since 1837. Her years are structured around the land’s natural rhythms and annual events: celebrations big and small\, harvests\, and work days that bring her family and community together—and always end with large meals for everyone to share.\nJoin us for a book signing and cookie decorating with edible flowers from one of Elizabeth’s recipes for the holidays.\n\nFamily Resource Center\n\nFree

SUMMARY:Shifting the Paradigm - Astrology And Your Life's Path
DESCRIPTION:The Untapped Truth of Solar Sign Astrology\n\n\nSolar Sign Astrology is a way to unearth\, not just the superficial blueprint of one’s make up\, but the deeper soul-level blueprint. The common Placidus house system begins with the Rising Sign as the 1st House. Our Rising Sign represents the superficial container of our ego. The Sun represents our soul’s ego identification. Solar Sign Astrology begins with the Sun Sign as the 1st House. This gives a whole new meaning to your chart and an added filter to use for looking inward. \nEveryone who signs up will send in their birth date\, time\, and location. You will receive a full chart\, which will give you an overview of your specific chart in the Solar Sign House System. \nLaDonna will present an example of Houses 1-12\, take questions along the way\, and will receive tips on how to interpret your own chart\, and how it affects your life’s path. \nYou will have your chart to take home with you\, and tea service\, refreshments\, and a spiritual gift bag will be included!

SUMMARY:Making Art and Living the Authentic Life
DESCRIPTION:As part of programming for Inside/Outside (on view until February 18)\, an exhibition of recent contemporary acquisitions\, Prof. Caroline Arruda will give a talk that combines philosophy with art to think about how artists show us what a life well lived might look like. Contemporary culture sees artists as being authentic because many pursue their creative goals above all else\, sacrificing family or a stable life to realize their dreams. While few of us doggedly pursue our goals with this intensity\, artists still do have something to teach the rest of us about living authentically and living well. \n\nMary Craig Auditorium\n\n\n\nFree Students\n$5 SBMA Members\n$10 Non-Members

SUMMARY:Bird “Nature Walk” of Elings Park Led by SB Botanic Garden
DESCRIPTION:Birds are the subject of the final walk in a series of free Nature Walks that explore the biodiversity of the 230-acre Elings Park as part of a new collaboration between the Park and Santa Barbara Botanic Garden and are led by Garden experts. Held is Saturday\, December 16\, from 9 to 10 a.m.\, it is led by Scot Pipkin\, the Garden’s Director of Education\, and Zach Philips\, Ph.D.\, Terrestrial Invertebrate Conservation Ecologist. \nThe walks are the start of as part of a larger collaborative effort between the two partners and the public to transform a section of the Park from invasive to native plants and document the effects. Future walks are scheduled\, once a month\, through the end of 2023. For more information\, visit www.SBBotanicGarden.org/calendar. \n“We invite the public to join us in recovering this portion of Elings Park so they can see first-hand the power of California’s native plants\,” says Denise Knapp\, Ph.D.\, the Garden’s Director of Conservation and Research. “Ultimately\, through this experience\, we hope that our community will leave inspired and begin transformations in backyards and landscapes across SB County and beyond.” \nElings Park opened in 1985 as the result of a community campaign to turn the former landfill into a public park. First encompassing 90 acres\, the Park expanded to 230 acres in 1994 with the purchase of an adjacent property. \nApproximately 75% of Elings Park is undeveloped. Nine miles of trails traverse shady oak groves and sunny\, ocean-facing hillsides covered with chaparral. Nonnative plants\, which have encroached on the natural landscapes\, have been the target of the Park’s recent efforts at habitat restoration. Over the past two years\, more than 250 California native oaks have been planted\, plus hundreds of native grasses and shrubs. For the past three springs\, a flock of sheep have been brought in for eco-friendly weed removal and fire prevention. \n“While Elings Park is just steps away from thousands of residences\, portions of it are still surprisingly wild\,” says Dean Noble\, Elings Park executive director. “Many people who enjoy our athletic facilities and cultural events have never visited our scenic South Bluffs. With the expertise of Santa Barbara Botanic Garden\, we can transform that landscape and encourage the next generation of community scientists.”
