SUMMARY:Chuck Graham Lecture & Book Signing
DESCRIPTION:At the California Nature Art Museum (formerly the Wildling Museum)\, Second Floor Valley Oak Gallery \nTen chapters  and 170 photographs vividly describe conservation efforts observed from  Chuck Graham’s kayak. In February 2021\, after photographing a bald  eagle on the cliffs surrounding Scorpion Anchorage\, Graham was inspired  to create this pertinent and breathtaking ode to Channel Islands  National Park. \nChuck Graham is a freelance writer and  photographer based in Carpinteria. He has been a beach lifeguard there  for 30 years and has led kayak tours around the Channel Islands since  1998. His work has been published in Backpacker\, BBC Wildlife Magazine\,  National Geographic\, Men’s Journal\, Natural History\, American Forests\,  High Country News\, and Westways. His award-winning book\, Carrizo Plain\, Where the Mountains Meet the Grasslands\, was released in January 2021. SUMMARY:NatureTrack’s Family Field Trip
DESCRIPTION:This is a new program from NatureTrack — Family Days are for parents\, grandparents and children to enjoy nature games and activities together.  NatureTrack has been leading K-12 students on the trails and beaches since 2011.  Now it’s giving families a chance to experience the ‘outdoor classroom.’  Freedom Trax will be provided to people who use wheelchairs or need extra assistance on the trail at no charge.   \n  \nNatureTrack is a 501c3 nonprofit that provides outdoor docent-led field trips during the usual school day for Santa Barbara County children at no cost to the schools or students\, utilizing local trails and beaches throughout north and south county. NatureTrack’s mission is two-fold: to encourage students to embrace our natural world with respect and wonder\, inspiring them to be stewards of our natural resources\, and prepare school-aged students with the attitudes\, leadership skills\, and habits for lifelong learning. Recently NatureTrack expanded its mission of connecting kids to nature and is now connecting people who use wheelchairs of all ages to get out into nature using Freedom Trax. This device quickly changes a manual wheelchair into a battery powered\, all-terrain vehicle which can easily traverse sand and trails. Now NatureTrack wheelchair users of any age can enjoy natural areas previously inaccessible to them using Trax. https://naturetrack.org. NatureTrack is expanding its reach up to San Luis Obispo and down to Ventura County with the Trax program. DESCRIPTION:Join Simon Kerry for a presentation on his new publication\, Miss Chase: Santa Barbara’s Trailblazer\, chronicling the life\, prescience\, importance and legacy of Pearl Chase and her work in Santa Barbara and beyond. \nPearl Chase’s strength of personality\, maturity\, intelligence and leadership qualities formed the bedrock that enabled her to look outwards and achieve so much in her lifetime. \nIn his book\, Kerry traces Chase’s early life and collegiate years at UC Berkeley through to her return to Santa Barbara and indelible impact on both California and the nation. During a tumultuous period in American history in the early twentieth century\, she paved a way for not only the environmentalist movement but also for women’s influence in politics in the federal and local civic spheres. Her compassionate\, charitable nature extended to many cultural groups and causes\, evident in her vocal support of protecting the lands and customs of Native Americans in the southwest. \nThe talk asks the questions: What can we learn from Pearl\, her pioneering activities and the causes to which she tirelessly devoted herself? DESCRIPTION:Miss Chase: Santa Barbara’s Trailblazer’ Book Talk + Archive Discussion with Simon Kerry and Erin Graffy.\nIn partnership with Santa Barbara Beautiful\, join us for a special evening with British historian Simon Kerry as he discusses his new book\, ‘Miss Chase: Santa Barbara’s Trailblazer. Explore materials from  the The Community Development and Conservation Collection (CDCC)\, also known as the Pearl Chase Collection\, donated by Ms. Chase to UCSB Library’s Special Research Collection\, and used in Simon’s research. Moderated by local Santa Barbara historian and author\, Erin Graffy. \nPearl Chase (1888-1979) was a longtime activist in local community affairs\, as well as at the state and national level. As secretary and later chair of the Plans and Planting Committee\, she encouraged the city’s rebuilding in the graceful Spanish style after the 1925 Santa Barbara earthquake. She was the city’s unofficial ombudsman in matters of natural beauty and public welfare\, suggesting health and building codes and encouraging sign ordinances\, saving trees and creating and enhancing parks. Her legacy continues to live on at UCSB through her collection and awards established in her name. \nAbout the Author\nSimon Kerry was born in 1970 and is an author and business owner. He is also the 11th Earl of Kerry. He was educated at Eton College and at Cambridge University where he was awarded an MA in Archaeology. He has an MBA from Hult Ashridge\, an MSc in Rural Land and Business Management from the University of Reading and a PhD in History from the University of East Anglia. He is married and has one child. He lives at Bowood in Wiltshire. His first book Lansdowne: The Last Great Whig was published by Unicorn Publishing Group in 2017.

DESCRIPTION:It’s the  I LOVE Solstice Party!   Bring your fabulousness to 1230 State Street\, Fat Tuesday February 13\,  Wine\, Sweets\, Music\, Dance\, Fun\, Connection.   5-10 pm \nLocal non-profit Summer Solstice Celebration\, in collaboration with Legacy Art Santa Barbara\, is presenting a pre-Valentine mixer\, on Fat Tuesday\, honoring those who have participated\, sponsored\, and loved Solstice throughout the years.  Solstice is turning 50 this year and will launch their 50-50 Club at this event: the first 50 who donate to this campaign will receive one VIP Wine Garden pass\, 10% off on event tickets year round\, and a commemorative 50-50 button. \nHighlights of the evening include soothing stylings of guitarist-multi-instrumentalist and producer George Quirin https://georgequirin.com/ \n; special performances by Laela Duncan\, composer/keyboardist Crispin Barrymore\, Solstice Executive Director Penny Little\, West Coast indie rock bank Love Lightning. http://lovelightning.com/ \nThe event will feature wine from Solvang’s Rideau Vineyards and sweets from your favorite local restaurants\, local artisans and vendors.
