DESCRIPTION:Show the beach some love! Join us for a cleanup on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at beautiful Arroyo Burro Beach. Meet in front of the Watershed Resource Center (blue building) to sign in. \nYou are welcome to bring your own clean up supplies or use ours. We’ll have buckets\, plastic bags\, and reusable or disposable gloves. Cleanups will be self-guided and can include the beach\, the parking lot\, or the open spaces surrounding Arroyo Burro. \nBe sure to visit the Watershed Resource Center during cleanup hours  to see interactive displays about local watersheds from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. \nParticipants will receive a coupon for a free cup of chowder from the Santa Barbara Shellfish Co. \nCommunity service volunteer hours are available for this fun outdoor volunteer opportunity!

SUMMARY:Carp History Museum to host Family History Day
DESCRIPTION:The Carpinteria Valley Museum of History will host a free Family Day 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on Nov. 9 from at the museum\, 956 Maple Ave. Open to all families and individuals\, Family Day will be filled with hands-on learning and fun! \nFifteen interactive stations will include: a scavenger hunt\, rope making\, using an apple press\, playing with vintage toys and games\, taking historic photos\, putting together puzzles and timelines\, using stereoviewers and viewfinders\, trying out a water pump and washboards\, writing on school slates\, making family trees and cultural crafts\, testing out writing styles from different eras\, and sifting in the sand for small “artifacts.” All stations\, prizes\, and takeaways are free for attendees. \nThe Museum is partnering with the Carpinteria State Beach\, UC Santa Barbara Library\, and the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society on Family Day. All three organizations will be hosting stations at the event. \nJayme Yahr\, the Museum’s Executive Director\, is excited to welcome returning and new visitors to the museum explaining\, “Family Day is going to be a fun community event. The Museum will have activities for children and adults\, lots of touch stations\, and new ways of thinking about and hand-testing history. The Lompoc Museum is celebrating Lompoc’s Sesquicentennial with a special program on Saturday\, November 9. There will be two sessions: 10 am & 2 pm. \nThe program will include a general overview of the origins of the Lompoc Valley Land Company and establishment of Lompoc. The main focus of the program\, however will be on some of the town’s earliest and most popular celebrations – May Day and 4th of July celebrations at Miguelito Park\, road races through the streets of Lompoc\, and the traveling adult education movement known as “Chautauqua”.

The #1 protective factor in youth mental health is a trusted adult. You can be that trusted adult who is trained with skills and knowledge about what to do and what to say. Both trainings also educate on available resources in Santa Barbara County. \n\nBLENDED YOUTH Mental Health First Aid [MHFA] is a FREE 6.5 hour certification course that teaches community members (18+) how to help someone who may be developing a mental health challenge or coping with a worsening mental health challenge or substance abuse disorder. Participants learn how to recognize\, understand and respond appropriately to signs of mental health challenges of varying intensity\, as well as substance use disorders.
