SUMMARY:Couples
DESCRIPTION:Parallel Stories with Rachel Cusk\, Siemon Scamell-Katz\, and Andrew Winer \nInspired by the artistic collaboration of Ed Kienholz and Nancy Reddin Kienholz and the SBMA exhibition Scenes from a Marriage: Ed & Nancy Kienholz\, Parallel Stories examines what happens in fiction and life when artist couples work together. Celebrated author and recent winner of the Femina Prize for a foreign novel\, Rachel Cusk returns to read from her Mann Booker Prize-nominated novel\, Second Place. In this enigmatic and compelling tale\, Cusk explores the complicated geometry of relationships—freedom and gender\, art and suffering\, ego and self-sacrifice\, illusion and will. Her husband and artist\, Siemon Scamell-Katz\, joins her on the stage\, along with their longtime friend award-winning author Andrew Winer\, whose novel\, The Marriage Artist\, provides a provocative snapshot of contemporary marriage. \nTogether\, they examine a certain anti-domestic stance\, the closeness of comfort and control of our constructed selves\, the way we enlist love in our perpetual search for meaning\, and what we give up to create art. \n$5 SBMA Members\n$10 Non-Members

SUMMARY:Transformation: Personal Stories of Change\, Acceptance\, and Evolution
DESCRIPTION:This free concert features student composers\, performers\, and writers from a workshop led by Grammy Award-winning saxophonist and composer Ted Nash who joins them on stage. Responding in part to artist Joan Tanner’s unorthodox use of materials and inspired by Nash’s original composition first performed with Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra\, these young artists explore the idea of transformation\, both personal and collective\, bringing word and music together in this exuberant community-sourced celebration of the expressive and empathetic power of art. \nThe backdrop for this performance will be created by students ages 12–14 enrolled in the Museum’s Emerging Teens Program and is inspired by the exhibition Out of Joint: Joan Tanner.

SUMMARY:SLO BREW LIVE + (((FOLKYEAH!))) PRESENT ~ THEE SACRED SOULS
DESCRIPTION:For Thee Sacred Souls\, the first time is often the charm. The band’s first club dates led to a record deal with the revered Daptone label; their first singles racked up more than ten million streams in a year and garnered attention from Billboard\, Rolling Stone\, and KCRW; and their first fans included the likes of Gary Clark Jr.\, The Black Pumas\, Princess Nokia\, and Timbaland. Now\, the breakout San Diego trio is ready to deliver yet another landmark first with the release of their highly anticipated\, self-titled debut. \n“Every step of the way has just been so organic\,” says drummer Alex Garcia. “Things just seem to happen naturally when the three of us get together.” \nIndeed\, there’s something inevitable about the sound of Thee Sacred Souls\, as if these ageless songs of love and loss have somehow always existed\, as if Garcia and his bandmates—bassist Sal Samano and singer Josh Lane—have been playing together for a lifetime already. Produced by Bosco Mann (aka Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth)\, the record is warm and textured\, mixing the easygoing grace of sweet ’60s soul with the grit and groove of early ’70s R&B\, and the performances are utterly intoxicating\, with Lane’s weightless vocals anchored by the rhythm section’s deep pocket and infectious chemistry. Hints of Chicano\, Philly\, Chicago\, Memphis\, and even Panama soul turn up in their music\, and while it’s tempting to toss around labels like “retro” and “vintage” with a deliberately analog collection like this\, there’s also something distinctly modern about the band that defies easy categorization\, a rawness and a sincerity that transcends time and place.

DESCRIPTION:For the eighth year in a row\, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden offers six free admission days to seniors aged 60 and older. Last year\, more than 1\,370 seniors attended the Senior Days\, a new record. SUMMARY:Faitell Attractions-The Collective\, Grand Opening
DESCRIPTION:Faitell Attractions- The Collective\, a popular interior design and curated consignment center in downtown Santa Barbara\, has moved to a new location. \nThe new\, 4\,000-foot showroom – double the size of the original store – is located at 127 West Canon Perdido\, Santa Barbara\, just off State Street and close to the Paseo Nuevo mall. The showroom will hold a Grand Opening celebration on Feb. 16- 5-8 pm. \nOperated by award-winning East Coast designer\, Lisa Faitell\, the showroom first opened on State Street in August 2020\, with a focus on fashionable vintage and upcycled furniture\, antiques\, and home décor and accessories from around the world\, with a focus on Mid-Century design style. Since then\, the store has steadily grown in popularity\, prompting Faitell to expand the showroom to include other selective Dealers and move to a larger space and is now known as “Faitell Attractions – The Collective.” \nVisitors to the showroom can expect to see a variety of colors and design styles that will tantalize the senses. “We cater to clients who are looking for something ‘special’ and keep this in mind when on the hunt.”  Members of the collective are Clark James\, a prolific artist and collector of Mid Century and “everything cool and interesting\,”; Lynell Dobowy\, a collector of vintage jewelry in “Hollywood” styles; Hammies\, a retro brand specializing in classic beach styles from the 1950-80s; vintage Mid Century modern art collector Trevor Alleman; vintage fashion stylist Nina Quiros-The Story\, and Taxo and Native American jewelry collector Cynthia Keefover. The showroom’s inventory is updated daily. \nIn addition to one-of-a-kind furniture and accessories\, the showroom offers custom window fashions\, including blinds\, roller shades\, woven wood shades\, soft drapery\, and window treatments from Horizon Window Fashions and Norman USA. These manufacturers offer nearly every type of window treatment available\, from solar shades to shutters and everything in between. \nFaitell is the creator of the successful design firm Faitell Interiors and Homme Interior. Prior to moving to Santa Barbara\, she worked for decades as an interior designer in New York. Faitell\, who graduated from the renowned New York School of Interior Design\, has worked with clients up and down the East coast and bi-coastally. She has won “Best of Houzz Award” for 3 consecutive years and was the winner of “Best of Manhattan Award for Design” in 2018.
