SUMMARY:Nicholas Galanin Let Them Enter Dancing and Showing Their Faces Presented By UCSB Arts & Lectures
DESCRIPTION:Proclaimed a “standout” by The New York Times\, multidisciplinary artist Nicholas Galanin explores conceptions and misconceptions surrounding Indigenous identity. He is widely praised for what have been considered the “definitive works” (ARTnews.com) of the 2019 Whitney Biennial\, 2020 Australian Biennale and 2021 Desert X\, among other notable exhibitions. His sculptures and multimedia installations intersect in form\, image and sound\, offering perspectives rooted in connection to the land and broad engagement with contemporary culture. In this illustrated presentation\, Galanin\, who is of Tlingit and Unanga descent and a citizen of Alaska’s Sitka Tribe\, will show how he employs materials and processes that expand dialogue on Indigenous artistic production\, and how culture can be carried.

SUMMARY:Breathwork Class with Sonya Barriere
DESCRIPTION:Join Sonya Barriere at Pura Luna for this breathwork class. This is a potent gateway and ally into self awareness. Breathe to heal!\n\n\nBreathwork is a potent gateway and ally into self awareness. This practice often includes acute physical sensations\, as well as somatic release and psychedelic visualization that wane and surge with the breath itself. Often breathers will also notice intense emotions\, physical sensations or memories that will surface when we get deeper into the practice. \nIn this class we will engage with our emotional and kinetic responses as a means to explore the inner landscape through the breath. This kind of physical engagement helps to ground the energy that builds in the body and allows free flow of circulation to places that may feel stuck. As we traverse the pathways that open up to us\, we come into contact with our own healing. \nBreath is Kinetic; we move and feel with it. You’ll be encouraged to use the breath to move and explore the sensations and intuitions of your body. We use three part breath to activate the nervous system and oxygenate the cells\, circulating energy throughout. Sonya incorporates hands on support and reiki if you desire\, and through these practices you can shake loose the places which might have accumulated stagnation in your psychic\, emotional and physical selves. \nThis is sliding scale donation based class. Recommended donation is $25-40 for our instructor and staff’s energy exchange.

SUMMARY:Sō Percussion with Caroline Shaw
DESCRIPTION:Pulitzer Prize-winner Caroline Shaw joins Sō Percussion as vocalist for ten songs she co-composed with the quartet members. Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part explores soil cultivation as a metaphor for creativity and collaboration. Shaw’s remarkable ear for melody and harmony and Sō’s playful sense of rhythmic invention come together in this strikingly original music. Taking inspiration from James Joyce\, ABBA\, American roots music\, plainchant\, Christian hymns and stories from the Old Testament\, Sō Percussion and Caroline Shaw dissolve the boundaries between classical and pop.
