SUMMARY:SLO BREW LIVE + (((FOLKYEAH!))) PRESENT ~ THEE SACRED SOULS
DESCRIPTION:For Thee Sacred Souls\, the first time is often the charm. The band’s first club dates led to a record deal with the revered Daptone label; their first singles racked up more than ten million streams in a year and garnered attention from Billboard\, Rolling Stone\, and KCRW; and their first fans included the likes of Gary Clark Jr.\, The Black Pumas\, Princess Nokia\, and Timbaland. Now\, the breakout San Diego trio is ready to deliver yet another landmark first with the release of their highly anticipated\, self-titled debut. \n“Every step of the way has just been so organic\,” says drummer Alex Garcia. “Things just seem to happen naturally when the three of us get together.” \nIndeed\, there’s something inevitable about the sound of Thee Sacred Souls\, as if these ageless songs of love and loss have somehow always existed\, as if Garcia and his bandmates—bassist Sal Samano and singer Josh Lane—have been playing together for a lifetime already. Produced by Bosco Mann (aka Daptone co-founder Gabriel Roth)\, the record is warm and textured\, mixing the easygoing grace of sweet ’60s soul with the grit and groove of early ’70s R&B\, and the performances are utterly intoxicating\, with Lane’s weightless vocals anchored by the rhythm section’s deep pocket and infectious chemistry. Hints of Chicano\, Philly\, Chicago\, Memphis\, and even Panama soul turn up in their music\, and while it’s tempting to toss around labels like “retro” and “vintage” with a deliberately analog collection like this\, there’s also something distinctly modern about the band that defies easy categorization\, a rawness and a sincerity that transcends time and place.

SUMMARY:Free Senior Day at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden
DESCRIPTION:For the eighth year in a row\, Santa Barbara Botanic Garden offers six free admission days to seniors aged 60 and older. Last year\, more than 1\,370 seniors attended the Senior Days\, a new record. They are made possible by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels\, and include docent tours\, native plant talks\, live acoustic music\, and more activities. \nThe dates for Senior Days in 2023 are Wednesdays beginning February 15 and continuing April 19\, June 21\, August 16\, October 18\, and December 13. Garden hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Advance reservations are required for non-Garden Members and can be made at www.sbbotanicgarden.org/visit. \n“Walking in nature is known to be beneficial for people of all ages\,” said the Garden’s Director of Development Melissa Patrino. “From boosting heart health and improving sleep to decreasing depression and anxiety\, a simple walk through the Garden turns into an opportunity to get exercise and connect with nature and others. We’re thrilled to bring this programming back with the help of our returning sponsor Welch-Ryce-Haider.” \n“Welch-Ryce-Haider is always looking for ways to support the community\,” said Managing Partner Stephen Gibson of Welch-Ryce-Haider. “As Santa Barbara’s oldest funeral chapel and crematorium\, we take pride in helping families celebrate life and what better way to get the most out of life than enjoying the beauty and serenity offered at Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. It has been our honor to sponsor the Free Senior Days since 2015 and we look forward to 2023 being the best year yet.” \nFor questions about Senior Days\, please visit https://sbbotanicgarden.org/classes-events/free-senior-day-february-15-2023 or call (805) 682-4726\, ext. 138. \n

SUMMARY:Acro Yoga
DESCRIPTION:AcroYoga or Partner Acrobatics is a playful and intentional physical activity. It is often referred to as “The Yoga of Trust”\, and we promise you will find out what that means in your first class. Acro is practiced with at least 2 people AND you don’t need a partner to attend!  Come solo!\n\nThese practices promote human connection and trust and improve balance\, strength\, and flexibility all while having safe and joyful playtime as a community.\n\nEssentially\, AcroYoga is playtime and exploration for adults.\n\nIn this class\, we are going to start with L-Basing Acro\, where there is a Base laying on the ground\, and a Flyer\, that is being supported by the base. We will also have a spotter whose job will be to protect the Flyer (and Base).  We will start with the basic building blocks and create a solid foundation so we can continue safely building a more advanced practice. AcroYoga is truly limitless; you can always modify any skill and make it more challenging. Between all of the fun\, strengthening\, and freedom of expression\, this practice is quite addicting\, so don’t say we didn’t warn you!\n\n\nThere are no prerequisites. Anyone who is open to learning is perfect for this class. You may come by yourself\, or bring a  partner. If you do come with a partner or find one in class\, you could always practice what you learned outside of class. It is best to wear tight-fitting clothes. Since we practice Acroyoga with partners and spotters\, making physical contact\, it is important to keep our hygiene to be considerate to others.  Also\, try to refrain from strong scents as well since these may be difficult for some people to tolerate.\nBring a yoga mat and a towel. (the towel may be used for back support when Basing).

SUMMARY:The Stone Foxes
DESCRIPTION:After 2 years\, the San Francisco rock and roll band is back on the road\, bringing their fans a first listen to some of the songs from their brand new album On The Other Side. Their recordings have managed to capture and even elevate the unadulterated joy of seeing them live. Even so\, one thing remains eternally true of the Stone Foxes; if you die without seeing them live\, it will have been a wasted life. \nBorn out of both global and personal hardships\, On The Other Side is an album of the heart. As the world was forced to look inward\, so were the Foxes. Quite literally for Shannon\, who underwent a painful open heart surgery (his second open heart surgery and fourteenth heart surgery in total). But\, out of this pain came a sweeping soundscape that feels like both new territory and a return to roots. \nThe production of this album was a journey in itself: written by Shannon and Spence\, rehearsed in their parents’ basement\, recorded in studios and living rooms throughout The Bay\, and mastered in Nashville. But through heartaches\, hardships and harbingers of doom\, the connecting force has always been love; brotherly love\, romantic love and\, of course\, the unbridled love of rock music. They exude this love during their unmissable live shows and when Shannon takes the band out on tour\, the world is better for it.
