SUMMARY:The Screwtape Letters
DESCRIPTION:THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS is the faithful\, provocative and wickedly funny theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ novel about spiritual warfare from a demon’s point of view\, creating a topsy-turvy\, morally inverted universe set in an eerily stylish office in hell\, The Screwtape Letters\, along with The Chronicles of Narnia\, remains one of Lewis’ most popular and influential works. Its piercing insight into human nature and the lucid and humorous way Lewis makes his readers squirm in self-recognition made it an immediate success. When first published in 1942\, it brought worldwide fame to this little-known Oxford don\, including the cover of Time magazine.

SUMMARY:Dr. Jennifer Doudna
DESCRIPTION:Co-Presented with Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara \nNobel Prize-winning Biochemist \n\n\nDr. Jennifer Doudna \n\n\nCRISPR Gene Editing and the Future of Human Health \n\n\n“I had been told that girls don’t do science. And fortunately\, I ignored that.” – Dr. Jennifer Doudna \n“The technology of gene editing will be the most important advance of our era\, one that will create astonishing opportunities combined with frightening moral challenges… and what it portends for our future.” – Walter Isaacson \nThe world stands on the edge of an era when gene editing can address many serious ills plaguing humankind\, says biochemist Jennifer Doudna\, who earned the 2020 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for co-developing CRISPR-Cas9 genome engineering technology. New discoveries in this field continue at a rapid pace. The FDA approved the first CRISPR-based gene therapy for the treatment of sickle cell disease. At Doudna’s Innovative Genomics Institute\, CRISPR is being harnessed to reduce climate change-causing emissions from cattle and edit the microbiome to solve intractable health issues such as asthma. In cancer\, a novel technique dubbed “cancer shredding” uses CRISPR to destroy tumor cells. Co-author of A Crack in Creationand the subject of Walter Isaacson’s bestseller The Code Breaker\, Doudna will explore this profoundly powerful technology\, its ethical implications and its breakthrough applications in agriculture\, environment and medical science.

SUMMARY:Centennial On Stage: Nik West
DESCRIPTION:The Granada Theatre’s centennial celebrations continue with an unforgettable dynamic performance by musical powerhouse and “The Queen of the Bassists” Nik West. Nik’s performance will incorporate an intimate cabaret-style setting and guests will be encouraged to embrace their authentic selves through this performance. Guests will have the opportunity to be seated right on stage and they’ll also find themselves dancing to the tune of their own beat. \nSince it first opened 100 years ago\, The Granada Theatre has worn many hats. It started out as a silent movie and live theater venue in 1924 before it became a movie palace under Warner Bros. in the 1930s. Today\, The Granada Theatre continues to celebrate and embrace the performing arts in Santa Barbara. The state-of-the-art theater also houses eight resident companies. The Granada will continue presenting additional centennial programming through the year\, with more to come.
